Responsibilities
Ship Masters (Maritime) navigate and command ships and vessels, and perform related functions on ships. They also perform monitoring roles to ensure safe loading and unloading of cargoes in accordance with safety regulations, harbour rules and customs procedures.
Basic qualification requirements
Academic requirements
A higher diploma in maritime studies or equivalent is usually required
Work experience
12 to 24 months sea-time experience after attaining Certificate of Competency (Deck Officer) Class 2

Professional knowledge and skills in maritime services
Professional knowledge and skills in using navigational equipment
