Responsibilities

Athletes compete in athletic or sports events. They train, compete, either individually or as part of a team in their chosen sport. They are responsible for participating in athletic or sports events, competing according to established rules and regulations; participating in regular practice and training sessions under the supervision of athletic trainers or professional coaches to maintain the required standard of fitness and skills to prepare for competitions; maintaining equipment used in a particular sport in good condition; participating in sports promotional activities and media interviews; deciding on strategies and tactics of competitive sporting events in consultation with coaches; assessing performance of other competitors and conditions at venues; obeying the rules of the sport during competitions and games; assessing performance after each athletic or sports event, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and making adjustments to improve future performance.
